Most of us aim for a greener lifestyle – but how many of us are walking the talk? In Individual and group action for the environment [Sustainability], KS4 pupils explore ways in which websites such as Freecycle and Facebook can lower the UK’s carbon footprint. There is also the opportunity to compare how the home and the workplace can be given a green makeover.

New year, new start?

2010

It’s that time of year again, when learners of all ages are wondering how to adjust their lives. ‘How can I be a more active citizen?’ is a perfect question for any pupils short of a new year’s resolution.

If you’re keen to push the ‘new year, new start’ theme, but are wondering how to tie this in with your resolution to have a better work-life balance, then look no further!

What’s Citizenship got to do with me? [Understanding Citizenship] is a priceless tool for teachers ready to start 2010 with a bang: thought-provoking activities which will prove to even the most cynical of pupils that Citizenship lessons are the key to the UK’s future.

In the lesson How can we live a more sustainable life? [Sustainability], an imaginary TV interview is planned for Green Teen TV – a lively activity guaranteed to get the cogs whirring in terms of a greener 2010 mindset.

Fair trade and ethical spending [Making economic decisions] is a powerful exercise in which students are asked to look beyond price and fashion – an exciting frame of reference for 2010.

Happy New Year!
