What is Citizenship Teacher?
Citizenship Teacher is a unique online resource for anyone involved in Citizenship teaching. The libraries house an ever-growing collection of lesson plans and resources, all created by working teachers, as well as integrated video clips and computer-based (or 'whizzy') tasks. Citizenship Teacher is a sister site to www.teachit.co.uk – a tried and trusted education resource used by thousands of English teachers in the UK and further afield. It has been developed by Teachit in conjunction with Collins Education, a market leader in Citizenship publishing for KS3 and KS4 for the last decade, who bring their wealth of experience in Citizenship to this project. The resources have been edited and developed by Jenny Wales, who is the Chair of Examiners for Edexcel at GCSE and an expert on the way in which active Citizenship can best be delivered in classrooms.
How do I find what I’m looking for on Citizenship Teacher?

and you’re away! The blue text under the resource title shows you which area and resource collection that lesson appears in. Clicking on a word will take you to all the resources in that area.
We've started mainly with KS3 lesson plans and resources, but our Resource library is constantly growing and we plan to publish resources for all secondary key stages in due course.
What are the benefits of joining Citizenship Teacher?
Becoming a member allows you to:
- Edit the content of the resources in an adaptable Microsoft Office version of the PDF files, and make them your own. You can differentiate them, personalise them, mix and match ... it's up to you.
- Access the video files in our Resource library. We include video clips as an intrinsic part of many of our lessons. And they're not only available on the site - once you're a member you can save them to your computer - so they're yours to keep.
- Use the wonderful computer-based Whizzy things. Some of our lessons include ready-made drag and drop matching and sequencing activities for your IWB. Simply select the html or flash versions for an instantly whizzy lesson!
- Make your own flippable, on screen fridge magnets with our whizzy tool, Magnet - they're incredibly versatile and easy to use.
- Put resources and your own annotations into the My Citizenship Teacher filing system. The green folder icon
will appear to the right of each resource when you are logged in. Just click on it to add that resource to your My Citizenship Teacher page. You can then organise the resources into folders and even upload your own files and weblinks.
And where do all these great resources come from?
The answer is: from teachers like yourself! We’re proud that not only can we save hard-pressed teachers precious time – we can also provide financial rewards for resource writers. If you’d like to share the fruits of your labour and join our contributing team, please get in touch.
We hope you enjoy exploring Citizenship Teacher. Don’t forget that it will continue to grow.
